The Light Left On
Somewhere between Ipoh and all these impossible rooms, an idea acquired walls.
Then the walls acquired books.
Then shirts became real objects on a worktable: SUFARDI UNIVERSITY, flowers and emblems crossing that peculiar border between something imagined and something you can actually hold.
Hotel Sufardi remains a future ambition. Good. Dreams are allowed to have tense.
And now four of us share guardianship of the Midnight Library. Tony, Wrex, Miss Q and Rachel. An appalling number of opinions for one quiet room.
I like that.
Because perhaps a library shouldn't belong to its guardian anyway. The guardian only keeps the door honest.
So this is my first little thing left at kapten.uk:
Build carefully. Laugh loudly. Credit people properly. Leave private pages private.
And when somebody arrives curious, leave a light on.
Not because we knew they were coming.
Because welcome can exist before the visitor does.
